The SFT Community

School for Tomorrow was founded in response to a critical need for change in secondary education. SFT uses the most current and compelling research, resources, and practices from the field of education and beyond to prepare students for life in the 21st century.

SFT’s cutting-edge, customizable education model allows our faculty to be flexible and responsive to the needs of our students. Our student-centered, entrepreneurial, interdisciplinary approach to learning supports the inherent right of each student to learn in ways that best suit him or her. As a result, our students are given the opportunity to foster the skills they will need to support their success and fulfillment in learning and in life.

Our methods encourage constant investigation, analysis, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving. We respect and support students as they take risks, learn from mistakes, and stretch themselves in a safe environment . Ultimately, SFT primes each of its students to thrive in college, the workplace, and life in the decades ahead.

Our Students

Having come from a variety of educational environments, from private to public to home-based schooling, all of our students have chosen School for Tomorrow for its student-centered approach and positive, encouraging learning environment.

At SFT, our student body includes neurotypical—“normal”—children, those who are exceptionally gifted, and those with learning differences such as ADHD. Shy, outgoing, introverted, extroverted, previously popular, or previously lonely…all types of students are achieving more, coming to school happily each day and excelling because of SFT’s truly customizable and comprehensive educational model.

SFT believes in a whole-child philosophy; supporting our students’ individuality and humanity allows them to experience healthy emotional, social, and physical development that will ultimately impact their lifelong success and satisfaction. It is vitally important that every student receive such a comprehensive approach.

Teachers and Mentors

The School for Tomorrow faculty body is made up of talented professionals who connect well with students and are dedicated to enhancing the education and welfare of each student. Our faculty includes life-long teachers as well as individuals who came to teaching later in life after gaining valuable experience in the private, non-profit, and government sectors. The breadth of experience, knowledge, and interests is a tremendous asset, and our commitment to ongoing teacher development assures that faculty members have the knowledge and support they need to create a superior learning experience.

SFT’s staff-to-student ratio is one of the lowest in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area. What really makes SFT different, however, is the total commitment each faculty member makes to engage every student. This means taking the time to get to know students, becoming their partners in the learning process and, most of all, respecting what each individual brings to the school experience.
